The Life of My Dreams . . . I Believe in Magic :))

Ah, the frailties of our human Lives . . .

How do we know if our Life will work out?

How do we cope with the hand Life seems to deal us?

What do we do about uncertainties???

“Do you believe in Magic? (Like the Lovin’ Spoonful song from my 60s childhood.)

I have to say, I do!”  DawnHoof

Reflections . . .

Twenty eight years ago, something wonderful happened — Starboy, my Horse-of-a-Lifetime, was born, in my arms, outside my dome house, up a canyon, in Malibu.

Yet that same night, twenty eight years ago, something awful happened — my (then) marriage fell apart.

So much uncertainty. So many questions.

How were my two young daughters and I to make it? How would I feed and care for all the horses? How would our lives work out???

Flash forward . . .

To tonight — Starboy’s twenty eighth birthday . . .

When I rode my same Horse-of-a-Lifetime into the forest, into the moonlight (aligned with Mars, no less!) under the vast canopy of September 19, 2018 stars.

Full Moon Pink Eclipse

Starboy Moonlight Ride

Long shadows

Dipping. Drooping.

Dark across the forest floor.

Starboy’s hooves, resound

Upon the path, like heartbeats —

Steady. Musical.

Twenty eight years

His melody strums the earth,

Graces the moonlight,

Carries my weight, still.

Twenty eight years

Starboy’s movement, rocking,

Swaying. Dancing moonbeams

Sparkling off his flowing mane.

Filling my heart with peace.

Wonder. Love for Life.

Like that first night

When he was born —

With so much promise,

:)) Fulfilled :))

Starboy's flying mane

Yet alongside the joy,

I remember the sorrow.

The uncertainty. The loss.

And I realize — WOW!!!!

All is well!  Everything

Turned out beautifully!

My children:  Grown, happy.

My horse dreams:  Fulfilled.

My (now) marriage:  Deep, fulfilling :)) :))

Our home:  Beautiful.

My Life:  The Life of my Dreams.

I achieved the accomplishment

We all wish for — hope for.

And I marvel — at the Magic!

And I thank God . . .

And I thank goodness.

And I smile :))

And my gratitude runs deep.

And strong . . .

Like Starboy!

What about you?

Is this Magic limited to just a few? Heck no! I believe it’s truly available to us all.

Where are you in your Life right now? Joy? Sorrow? Uncertainties?

Pray. Do your best. Follow your dreams. Look up.

Make your best decisions whenever you come to a crossroads.

Dust yourself off when you fall. Get back up and go at it again.

And you’ll get there. It might take a while.

But be encouraged — you’ll manifest the Life of your dreams :))

Golden Rays

Do you believe in Magic?

Do you believe in magic in a young girl’s heart
How the music can free her whenever it starts?
And it’s magic if the music is groovy
It makes you feel happy like an old-time movie
I’ll tell you about the magic, and it’ll free your soul
But it’s like trying to tell a stranger ’bout-a rock and roll

If you believe in magic, don’t bother to choose
If it’s jug band music or rhythm and blues
Just go and listen, and it’ll start with a smile
That won’t wipe off your face no matter how hard you try
Your feet start tapping, and you can’t seem to find
How you got there so just blow your mind

If you believe in magic, come along with me
We’ll dance until morning till there’s just you and me
And maybe, if the music is right
I’ll meet you tomorrow, sort of late at night
And we’ll go dancing, baby, then you’ll see
How the magic’s in the music and the music’s in me

(The Lovin Spoonful, 1965 — lyrics)

  1. Hi, dear Dawn. Yes, I believe in the magic and mysteries of our lives. Happy Birthday to Starboy. Much love to you.

    • Thank you, Patricia :)) I know you do! May the sun and moon and stars drape loving shadows across the landscape of your Life, creating images of wonder — blessing you with beauty and awe :)) :)) :)) Ride on!!! Hope all is well with you :)) Dawn

  2. Thanks for this beautiful blog! Our lives are full of magic and when we recognize it, it makes them so much more exciting! Thanks for the reminder!! Love your friend Starboy!!!

    • :)) :)) :)) Thanks for taking the moment to remember the magic that surrounds our Lives, and all of our accomplishments. The price we would pay for a canopy of stars on an inhabitable planet teaming with Life of all shapes and sizes, including the horse-kind that let us hop on and carry us on magical rides, is beyond the realm of fiction! :)) Enjoy :)) Dawn

  3. May I post this to my blog as a guest blog. In about a month! My mare Sparkle, was born September 18.

    • Yes, yes, yes!!! I feel very akin to you and your writings, by the way. I had a column in our local paper years ago entitled: Heart of the Horse :)) You and I do share a deep Horse Heart! And I had a beloved Nubian goat kid I raised and named Sparkle. She even hiked with my girls and me up the back trails of Malibu. We would bring bowls and cereal (she carried our gear in a dog pack), and milk her at rest time for our snack :)) :)) Dawn

Wonderful! Poetry that gallops through my heart—now, especially, since I’ve had the amazing pleasure to ride on your beautiful StarBoy. It was pure Magic that conspired to bring us together and it is magic that shrouds us all in wonder. Love you. Thanks again! >

    • Yes!!! Magic encircles our spheres like the soaring cosmos Starboy and I rode beneath last night . . . and the blood moon that united us, Sept. 28, 2015 :)) :))))) So glad Starboy and I got to share that Magic with you, Margery!!!! ❤ Dawn

  7. Yes. Yes. ☺️
The god who sang the universe into place also sings beauty in the what can seem like the mess of our lives!

Wow, Dawn this is magical! i am remembering 26 years ago, quite close to the day that we met, I remember a much younger Starboy, two precious little girls, and the beginning of our forever “sister-ship”! Eternally thankful to the One who brought us all together! Love this post and love you!!

    • :)) Love Love Love you Bari!!! :)) It all started with Mentor and the carriage ride at Westward beach, Malibu . . . continuing to lives so intertwined through Miracles and Magic there is no listing them here . . . to grafting into horse family through Hokuleia :)) :)) Yes — you believe in Magic, and the One who is still bringing us through this thing we all call Life, no matter what the circumstances or uncertainties appear to be! :)) :))

      • Bari Moulin

You continue to inspire me and so many others through your beautiful writings full of love, wisdom and wit, and laced your wonderful photographs of a life well-loved! (and lived!)
Love you and looking forward to this next generation and adventure! 🙂 🙂

  9. You’ve an incredible amount of magic tied up in Starboy. Such a beautiful animal, and now twenty eight. I think there are certain bonds with nature where it is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence and you’ve definitely found this with your horse. I can just imagine the pride and love you two shared on your ride to celebrate. When everything goes wrong, there is someone (or some horse) there to make it alright again 🙂 Cheers to a great autumn.

    • Randall, your comments are the real reason to blog :)) :)) I thought of you yesterday, wondering how in the world you are, my early WordPress friend . . . and just discovered your sweet and caring comment :)) Great news! I found a stallion to cover Aria in hopes of a next generation Starboy. It all happened this Wed (9/26) — with a very good chance she’s now in foal!!! So the Magic continues. And the seasons of our lives, our days, move on. And we witness Life, photographing, journaling. Sharing kind warm comments with friends we know much of, but never actually met, through this online format. Wishing you the very best as we roll into another perspective, another season :)) :)) Looking forward to your next post! Dawn

Reading your poem to Starboy made me cry. Your beautiful prose still lights up the sky. Thank you for being such an important part of my life. All I have to do, is look at Mt. Rainier, and I think of you.

  12. Happy belated birthday, Starboy! And thank you for your wonderful words and music, Dawn. I am glad you found your magical life.
